SHP #25: Another Medium PR
August 2025 will go down in my personal record books, haha
Howdy everyone, thanks for reading!
Learn from one Side Hustler's Progress. Let's go!
1. More good things happening on Medium this month
A couple of my articles have been working overtime:
August 2025 is the first month I have over 1,000 reads on Medium for my articles.
This beats the previous read count by a factor of five.
I'm noting that all of these articles are Obsidian articles.
I'll be writing more of these for sure!
2. Published two articles this week
I've been aiming for three articles a week, and got out two this week.
That brings my story count on Medium up to 180.
Here they are:
For the coming week: Publish three articles.
3. No additional sales on my product
My templates for the Obsidian Starter Kit for Content Creators are now up on Gumroad.
This Starter Kit is a packaging of templates, processes, and dashboards that I've created and adopted for my "second brain" in my Obsidian vault (repository) to do the following:
Enter notes in an organized way
Process the notes so that they become more useful
Use the notes in the vault to spur remixed content
An article I wrote several weeks ago, 6 Reasons People Switch Away From Obsidian, has picked up a lot of steam compared with my other posts recently. I just realized that I had written the article before I got the starter kit together, and didn't have the product page linked there. That's fixed now.
I'm seeing some activity on Gumroad for people visiting the link, and had a dozen clicks from Medium, so the article marketing is working there.
I've been playing with different setups in Obsidian to make it more usable. The dashboards I had set up were okay, but after discovering Workspaces to set up multiple windows in Obsidian, I'm going to start using that more. Having the windows set up from the start lets me click in to the notes and then back out more easily so that I can process a bunch more quickly and get on a roll
For the coming week: Write Threads posts and articles soft-selling the product.
4. Posted one video on my YouTube Channel
I broke my losing streak (!) and posted a short video teasing some of my recent acquisitions. I withdrew $300 in ones from the credit union that I'm going to hunt. I also bought $40 in low-ish serial numbers that I plan to list on eBay.
For the coming week: Get out two regular videos and two shorts.
5. Solid Cash Tips newsletter
I use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to manage my minimalist Solid Cash Tips newsletter.
Issues 227 to 232 went out each weekday and Saturday.
Here they are if you're interested.
I've moved from shorter link-style newsletters to a longer piece of content with an insight on some aspect of building online presence, which will soft-sell an offer.
I deleted over half of my list because they hadn't opened any emails in the previous 6 months, some of them during the previous nine months. On the flip side, my open rate is now over 20%, haha!
For the coming week: Get out a newsletter Monday through Saturday in the new longer format.
Summary of how I did, and what I'm going to do
Here's what I had planned:
Post at least twice a day, and comment on other posts for at least 15 minutes a day. (kind of did this)
Publish three articles. (almost, published two)
Write Threads posts and articles soft-selling the product. (not really)
Get out two regular videos and two shorts on YouTube. (better than nothing, got out 1 short)
Get out a newsletter Monday through Saturday in the new longer format. (YAY I did this!)
I plan to do the same things this coming week.
What other things would you like to hear about? Let me know in the comments!
