Howdy everyone, thanks for reading!
I'm experimenting with a shorter form today. Let's see how this goes over. Feel free to let me know what you thought of it compared to other issues!
Learn from one Side Hustler's Progress. Let's go!
1. Spending a lot of time on Threads
Threads is a breath of fresh air compared to a number of other platforms.
(Not pointing at Substack by the way, some other platforms.)
I've been figuring out how to be more productive on there and use my time wisely. I put together a set of lessons learned after spending most of a day on there (it's the third link in the next section).
My strategy is the following:
Comment a lot on other people's threads to be helpful and to learn about the problems people are having with their content creation
Post fewer times but keep the posts on topic to content creation
Follow like-minded individuals and other interesting people
I'm up to 83 followers. Once I have 100 I'll be able to get more statistics and information on the performance of my posts.
For the coming week: Develop a Threads goal to track and report.
2. Published three articles this week
I've been aiming for three articles a week, and got three out.
Here they are:
This brings my story count on Medium up to 161.
For the coming week: Publish three articles.
3. Really close to getting a low-ticket product out
Later tonight I should have an Obsidian Starter Kit for Content Creators up on Gumroad.
Online Colleague Mark Stuart got his DeePeST product out, so now it's my turn :)
This Starter Kit is a packaging of templates, processes, and dashboards that I've created and adopted for my "second brain" in my Obsidian vault (repository) to do the following:
Enter notes in an organized way
Process the notes so that they become more useful
Use the notes in the vault to spur remixed content
I've been haphazard at best until recently doing all of these things, which was why I worked on the system.
I figure there's got to be a least a few creators out there that could use something similar.
Once the product is on the shelves, I'll bring other soft-selling to bear, following ideas from Mark Thompson, Adam Dukes, Jamie Northrup, and others
For the coming week: Get the product on Gumroad and begin writing content related to it.
4. Published one video on my YouTube Channel
I posted one regular video to my Cool Serial YouTube channel.
This makes 112 videos on the channel. Some statistics:
68 regular videos and 44 shorts
845 subscribers (+3 from last week)
147.9k views and 4.5k watch hours (lifetime)
The watch hours for the past 28 days are "less than usual" which isn't surprising because I haven't been posting much.
For the coming week: Get out two regular videos and two shorts.
5. Solid Cash Tips newsletter
I use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to manage my minimalist Solid Cash Tips newsletter.
Issues 185 to 190 went out each weekday and Saturday. All of them went out at 8:40 AM.
Here they are if you're interested.
This newsletter is one of a few things I'm holding onto for dear life to as I build systems to put content out consistently.
The open rates are still a bit less than I'd like. For the past month or so they've been remarkably consistent, between 11% and 15%. Mark Thompson set a goal for me to get that number more like 30%, which he says that I can do by getting subscribers that are more aligned with my messages.
It's also a bit concerning that I've gotten only one new subscriber in the past three and a half weeks.
For the coming week: Get out a newsletter Monday through Saturday.
Summary of how I did, and what I'm going to do
For the past week, a little bit better follow-through:
Post two more YouTube videos and two more shorts. PARTIAL (one regular video)
Get out an issue of Solid Cash Tips every weekday again and Saturday. DONE!
Get out three long-form articles. DONE
For the next week, here's what I have on the docket:
Develop a Threads goal to track and report.
Publish three articles.
Get my Obsidian Starter Kit on Gumroad and begin writing content related to it.
Get out two regular videos and two shorts on YouTube.
Get out a newsletter Monday through Saturday.

I like it. I get lost with long articles.
